Health Benefits Experienced Gardening

Grounding

Grounding my feet in soil has helped my body to scavenge free radicals.

Sunlight + Vitamin D

Increased exposure to sunlight on a more frequent basis helped to support Vitamin D synthesis.

Improved Mental Health

Several challenges arose this year in gardening, however, everything harvested and learned made every effort worth it. Notably, gardening was beneficial to my mental health and helped me cut down food cost.

The following was harvested:

Tomatoes

Cucumber

Oregano

Basil

I learned, how to focus more on approaching challenges with a new sense of patience.

More often than not, expect a process to take longer than expected.

Use setbacks as an opportunity to highlight areas for improvement

Found joy in the process just as much as the product of my labor.

Express even greater gratitude for food, considering the effort crops took to grow from seed to maturity and how food costs are increasing.

I hope this inspires someone to pick up gardening as a hobby. You don’t have to build a greenhouse. Starting with a variety of herbal plants in your kitchen can teach you so much that can be transferred over as you scale up to a garden. I know we are only in autumn, but I look forward to spring there is so much more to learn and produce the next time around!
